The season of giving is quickly approaching – and Heritage is ready! Our communities have put together several wonderful supply drives to help make the holidays and the winter season a little more special for those in need. But we need your help! Whether it’s an old coat, a package of socks, a roll of stamps or a children’s toy, your generosity will go a long way toward making someone’s holidays a little brighter!
Winter Coat Drive
The weather in Wisconsin is famously frigid over the winter months. While most people cope by donning extra layers, some people don’t have that option. Heritage Court in Eau Claire wants to change that. Their winter coat drive, which goes throughout the month of October, aims to collect coats to donate to people in need throughout the community. Help make sure everyone stays warm this winter by gifting one of your old winter jackets! Coats may be dropped off at 3515 E. Hamilton Ave. in Eau Claire. [Download the flyer.]
Toys for Tots
The Marine Corps Toys for Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys to distribute to less fortunate children for the holidays. This year, two of our communities are hosting Toys for Tots drives for area kids!
Heritage Assisted Living in Eau Claire is beginning their drive first, on November 1. Toy may be dropped off between then and December 13 at 3706 Damon Street in Eau Claire. [Download the flyer.]
The toy drive at Heritage Court in Menomonee Falls goes from December 1-13. Everyone who donates a toy will be entered to win a raffle prize, with one winner being selected after the collection period ends. Toys may be dropped off at 14250 W. Hampton Ave. in Menomonee Falls. [Download the flyer.]
Operation Care Package
Those brave men and women serving overseas are also in need of a little holiday cheer! That’s why Heritage at Deer Creek and Heritage Waukesha are putting together Christmas care packages for our troops.
Deer Creek collection items include: protein/cereal bars, jerky, Slim Jims, summer sausage, granola, fruit snacks, lip balm, travel size Tide, international pre-paid phone cards and stamps. Another great item to consider is a personal card or letter of support, which can go a long way toward brightening someone’s day. Donations will be accepted through November 28.
When you stop by with your donation, don’t forget to grab some cookies! Tours of the community are also available, if interested. Items may be dropped off at 3585 S. 147th St. in New Berlin. [Download the flyer.]
Waukesha collection items include: gum, granola bars, Chapstick with sunscreen, soup, toothbrushes, deodorant, tampons/pads, cookies/crackers, books/magazines, small Kleenex packs, hand warmers, hand sanitizer, instant coffee/hot chocolate, Icy Hot pads and small peanut butter jars. Residents and families will be putting care packages together on November 23, so please drop your items off at the front desk (1831 Meadow Lane, Pewaukee) by November 22. [Download flyer.]
Food Drives
The Hunger Task Force aims to provide healthy food free of charge to those in need. And around the holidays, when most of us are feasting with family, many plates in the area are empty. Help fill a few plates – and a few bellies – by donating nonperishable food items at Heritage Court in Menomonee Falls between November 1 and 18.
Plus, if you donate at least 3 nonperishable items, you will be entered into a raffle, and one winner will be selected after the collection period. Donations may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 14250 W. Hampton Ave. in Menomonee Falls. [Download the flyer.]
Heritage Muskego is also holding a drive for the Hunger Task force. Their goal is to collect 300 pounds to fill their box! Help them by donating a nonperishable food item (or two or three) to S64 W13780 Janesville Road in Muskego between November 29 and December 20. [Download the flyer.]
Up in the Appleton area, consider donating to Aspire’s food drive, which benefits Freedom House. Aspire is collecting boxers and canned goods to help those who have suffered domestic abuse and their children. Donations may be dropped off between November 7-28 at 825 Cobblestone Lane in Kimberly. The Giving Tree
In Shel Silverstein’s iconic book The Giving Tree, a single tree provides for a boy throughout the stages of his life, selflessly giving parts of itself so he can thrive. That’s a lesson we should all keep in mind as the holidays draw near.
Heritage Court in Eau Claire has come up with a way where you, too, can selflessly give in order to help someone else thrive: a Christmas Giving Tree. From December 1-20, the public are invited to come browse the Heritage Court tree, where each ornament has an item listed that can help someone in need – like boys’ small socks or girls’ gloves. Pick the item you would like to buy, purchase it and bring it back to Heritage Court. We’ll distribute all of the items to local churches, who will present them to families in need.
