According to the Alzheimer’s Association, art can be very powerful when it comes to therapy, “Art projects can create a sense of accomplishment and purpose. They can provide the person with dementia an opportunity for self-expression.“
That’s why we ensure we plan multiple art classes for our memory care residents in our Madison communities! We make to sure integrate many artistic opportunities into our residents’ schedules like painting, sculpting, and more, so that they can experience this freedom of expression while building relationships and connecting with their peers!
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, music can be very powerful when it comes to our memories, “Studies have shown music may reduce agitation and improve behavioral issues that are common in the middle-stages of the disease.“
That’s why we developed our music therapy program, A Measure in Time, where we create a personalized playlist for each resident in our Madison memory care communities. Each playlist is made up of music and songs that are special and mean something to them, whether it be classical music and ballads or rock ‘n roll and punk! Not only will these playlists help residents feel a sense of self, but they’ll also be able to socialize with other residents, encouraging connections and community!
Reminiscence therapy involves discussing events and experiences from the past, and the goal is to evoke memories, while stimulating mental activity. When a new resident joins one of our memory care communities in Madison, a life enrichment specialist interviews the family to create their “Life Story” by collecting key life details including: likes, dislikes, important memories, past interests, and names of important people and family members. Family members are also encourage to bring any photos, videos, and other “mementos” that are of importance to their loved one.
All of the information provided is then woven into the resident’s individualized memory care plan. In MapHabit, your loved one will have constant reminders of who they are and all of the happiness they’ve experienced throughout their life!

Heritage is an absolutely wonderful facility. We have a member in memory care and a member moving into assisted living. One member was an emergency situation so the need was urgent. I have high expectations and toured multiple facilities which were all very nice facilities (with the exception of one). But the staff at Heritage was levels above the others. Their true compassion for their “family” members was very apparent and it was real. They also have a nurse within each unit so the level of personal care they are able to provide is also higher.
